Maximum Games released a new trailer for Kylotonn Racing Games’ upcoming V-Rally 4, which is due out for Xbox One, PS4 and PC this September. Additionally the game will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch for the very first time, but the release date hasn’t been ironed out just yet.
The new trailer for V-Rally 4 focuses on the buggies and the Rally Cross mode. These are just a couple of the features present in the upcoming off-road racing game, which will also feature Hillclimb that centers around racing to the top of the mountain in powerful rally vehicles, Extreme-Khana designed around drifting through different obstacle courses, and the standard Rally races that take place in exotic locations around the world.
We get some cut together clips of the V-Rally Cross mode first, featuring some minis and hatchbacks rumbling through the dirt tracks, across the snowy landscapes, and through the stadium courses.
Nearly halfway through the trailer it switches over to the dune buggies, where we see the lightweight off-road vehicles showcasing more bounce and jiggle than the latest Dead or Alive 6 trailer.
Strangely they don’t focus much on the dune buggies, and we get more of the V-Rally Cross mode on display than the actual buggies, which is kind of odd. I was definitely looking forward to seeing more of the buggies trekking across open desert expanses, but it just didn’t seem to come to fruition.
Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room… the graphics.
You can clearly see that there are jaggies everywhere on the close-ups, which means it’s likely 1080p without any kind of anti-aliasing. You can also see in a couple of clips that when zoomed out the textures turn quite blurry on the vehicles, like in the clip below.
Another issue is that the smoke effects are rather rudimentary. Coming off of games like WRC 7 or DiRT 4, one would have expected more refined dirt effects and better dust kick-up.
In the image above you can clearly see where the vector face for the alphas start and end for the dirt effects. The cut-off for the effects on the ground looks really obvious and quite visually displeasing, if I must say so myself.
Then again, maybe these are some of the concessions that the developers at Kylotonn had to make in order to squeeze V-Rally 4 onto the Nintendo Switch? Anyway, you can look for the game to launch on PS4, Xbox One and PC starting in September.
