MAGFest executive director, Nicholas Marinelli, is a self-proclaimed Liberal. Marinelli recently made a public tweet on July 28th, 2018, curtly telling gamers that they were the worst people and that he doesn’t want them showing up at MAGFest this year after they criticized the upcoming DOOM movie that will release direct-to-DVD.
Jesus fucking christ, “gamers” are the worst people on the planet. Holy shit, you people. If you are one of the misogynistic pricks on this thread, do me a favor and just don’t come to magfest, ok? We don’t want your money. https://t.co/LnelbIf0X1

The tweet was in response to the people who criticized the upcoming film that’s because it appears to be another action film starring a “kickass female who don’t need no man”. That’s not even just an assumption rolled out by fans of DOOM. We do know for a fact that the two leads of the upcoming DOOM reboot will star two females.
One of the leads also joked on Twitter about not needing the “Doom Guy”, which set fans off because they assumed that this would mean that this would be yet another property converged for sake of adding points to the feminist agenda of taking over male properties just to bury them and ruin entertainment for men.
Back in May of 2018 actress Amy Manson tweeted the following.
Who needs a #doomguy…….🖕🏻🤜🏻 #official #takingover #boss #doommovie #doom #tearingshitup @tonygig pic.twitter.com/9lutq0zOtZ
— Amy Manson (@AmyMansonLondon) May 19, 2018
The response was less than enthusiastic from fans, who have already had to suffer through a number of their favorite properties being upended by the SJW agenda that has destroyed comic books, ruined plenty of movies, and have turned video games into a conduit for social engineering propaganda.
Many DOOM aficionados responded with snark and disappointment about the news that Doom Guy wouldn’t be the lead.
Here are some of the comments that people made on the thread of Manson’s tweet.
You know this is the opposite of what this movie needs to win over Doom fans who are really skeptical of this movie. Doomguy is literally their favorite.

DoomSlayer has been confirmed. Incase you care.

Because Hollywoo wants to have its cake and eat it too. Pushing progressive posturing on top of establised IPs is a recipe for disaster. Not saying there are not exceptions. But fans have been burned plenty and are not gonna put up with it.

“Hey let’s shit on the super popular main character of a 25 year video game series, surely this will be a great marketing tactic.”
— Liam Emsa (@LiamEmsa) June 12, 2018
Who needs Doom Guy? How about the fans of the franchise? If you’re idea of female empowerment is combative with the fans of the thing you are making a film about don’t be surprised about the backlash.

#nevergoingtowork. wonder why Star Wars isn’t doing as well as Disney wanted…. Or hell Ghostbuster reboot. Please dear god consider the fans. All your asking for is a failure at the box office.

The thread continues on in that manner.
Nick Marinelli doesn’t point out which comments are “misogynistic”, but simply waves a wide brush across the DOOM fandom and tells them that he doesn’t want them at MAGFest and doesn’t want their money.
This shouldn’t be too surprising given that Marinelli made anti-#GamerGate sentiments over the last two years while also exercising acedia on the topic of recent ethical controversies that have occurred in the gaming industry.
Marinelli actually stated that gamers didn’t start #GamerGate back when Gerstmanngate took place back in 2007, and therefore #GamerGate lacks true commitment to ethics in media.
That latter isn’t necessarily true, there was just some dog whistles in phrasing and focus. Legitimate concerns should be about the billion dollar ad industry buying review sites, but the word “ethics” only appeared whenever socially progressive views were expressed by reviewers.
— Nick The Newbie (@NickTheNewbie) May 25, 2018
That is to say, people only ever got accused of being unethical if they had to audacity to say that a game was sexist. I sure as shit didn’t remember a movement like gg coming out of kane&Lynch. You needed a woman fucking a reviewer to get gamers concerned about “ethics”.
— Nick The Newbie (@NickTheNewbie) May 25, 2018
Marinelli also ignores the long history of gamers fighting back against corruption within the industry, starting with the outcry during the Gerstmanngate incident from 2007, which was widely covered by Engadget, The Escapist, and Kotaku (to name a few), and even managed to get its own Wiki. It was the catalyst for gamers to start questioning media, and it eventually helped blow up Doritosgate back in 2012, as chronicled by KnowYourMeme. Doritosgate — which spawned the infamous Doritos Pope meme — was also the precursor for #GamerGate, and the string of corruption that gamers uncovered.

Marinelli is also ignoring the fact that gamers are up in arms over the film because DOOM is one of the last and possibly only masculine AAA properties on the market at the moment. Everything else has been subverted or converged by the SJW agenda. Gamers are EXTREMELY protective of the Doom Guy and the DOOM franchise because it’s the last of a dying breed of fun entertainment that doesn’t have forced political propaganda stuffed into every crevice.
As for Marinelli… he originally joined MAGFest back in 2007, and by 2015 he became the chief operating officer. He then managed into the executive director role in late 2017.
The next MAGFest event is MAGWest in August between the 10th and 12th in Santa Clara, California, while the event after that is set between September 7th and September 9th in Alexandria, Virginia.
The new DOOM movie is rumored to come out in 2019 along with the new DOOM: Eternal.
