The Punchline: Blood Sisters Comic Surpasses IndieGoGo Goal With Days To Go

We’ve seen a number of super hero comic books emerge from the indie scene thanks to the likes of crowdfunding platforms such as IndieGoGo and Kickstarter. Most of the comics coming out from that platform represent traditional heroes making a return to form, something that comic book fans have been desperately wanting.

Some of the comics looking to get funded during this #ComicsGate era of the industry are a departure from the norm and take a darker look at some of the traditional tropes of herodom, such as The Punchline: Blood Sisters. The IndieGoGo campaign has already surpassed its initial $5,500 goal and it still has just under a week to go.

The story centers around a hero named Mel who passes on her powers to a younger girl named Jessie. Mel is forced to stick around to train Jessie during the trials and tribulations of becoming a super hero, but not everything is quite as it seems.

The comic is being put together by Matthew Weldon and Bill Williams. The duo have been attempting to shop around The Punchline: Blood Sisters to publishers but none of them were willing to dive in.

I don’t know the exact details of what turned off the bigger boys from picking up The Punchline, but Weldon did share some art on Twitter and the comic isn’t afraid to introduce some ryona to its heroine during her battle sequences, so it’s not going to be another Marvel situation where the female heroines don’t get hurt or can’t take damage.

The comic is already past the halfway point of development, and they’ve already managed to pencil and ink in the story so much so that they only have 30 pages remaining out of the 124-page book.

If you’re looking for a female super hero comic book that isn’t cringe-worthy or steeped in propaganda like Marvel Comics, you can check out The Punchline: Blood Sisters over on the IndieGoGo page.
