The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Of Cold Steel 3 Will Be Localized By NIS America

Set for release in the fall of 2019, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 will be made available on PS4 in Europe and North America, both with English and Japanese voiceover audio options, and English and French subtitle options. The real deal breaker for some gamers is that NIS America will be handling the localization of the game.

Gematsu picked up the news from an official announcement by NIS America, who made the announcement via a tweet that contained an accompanying trailer for the upcoming Western release of the game, which you can check out below.

When it seems as if peace has finally settled over the empire of Erebonia, the embers of war stir anew just a mere year-and-a-half later in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III coming exclusively to PlayStation®4 in Fall 2019! #TrailsofColdSteelIII #PlayStation4 pic.twitter.com/WkSuE4ke5b

The trailer covers some of the cinematics, as well as a brief look at the mechs that can be used in battle. There are plenty of characters that will be at the disposal of the player, and the turn-based combat from the previous games makes a return as well.

Visually, not much has changed with the game, but it’s not like The Legend of Heroes series has ever been known to have groundbreaking graphics.

The Twitter thread seems to be indicative of how most gamers – especially fans of the series – took the news when they discovered that NISA was going to be handling the localization and not XSeed Games.

You seriously need to step up on this one. You have a history of doing shoddy localization work, and that would be absolutely unacceptable on this title. I hope you made that commitment before you decided to take on a franchise that’s been handled with such love and care.

great, the series is ruined thanks to you and the game is not even out yet, all due to your bad reputation.

English and French…. (why not spanish?)
No PC…
No XSEED…
Disappointed but not surprised.

The YouTube comments aren’t quite as negative, but they still acknowledge that NISA needs to prove that they aren’t going to repeat what happened with various other localized renditions of games where the outfit came up short, especially with the bungled release of Ys VIII, which required multiple delays and apologies.

There are also a few people in the comment section defending NISA, claiming that they aren’t that bad because The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 2 was a good game and was localized properly. However, it was not actually NIS America who did the localization for Trails of Cold Steel 2, it was XSeed Games.

A lot of fans of Japanese RPGs are leery about NISA’s localization because the PC version of Ys VIII was delayed by half a year and when it did launch the game was broken at release. And that’s not to mention that they had to overhaul the localization, redo some of the voices, and spruce up the game after receiving the initial complaints, which resulted in them fixing the localization with a patch that came out at the start of 2018 for the PS Vita and PS4.

You can look for The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 to launch on PS4 later this year during the fall. Hopefully NIS America has learned from past mistakes and does a right proper job with the localization this time around to avoid any major controversies.
