It’s not often we get high-quality, story-driven, cyberpunk H-games. It seems like those kind of tales always live on the precipice of what’s considered legitimate fiction compared to the standard H-game offerings. But Dharker Studio’s new visual novel hearkens back to the old days of Violence Jack and Wicked City, where the hardcore dystopian future was depicted through a retro lens with its own flair and flavor.
Dharker and Nutaku announced that Echo Tokyo: Phoenix is currently available on the Nutaku Store for $14.00. During the launch week you can get the game for 15% off the normal sales price for only $11.90.
The visual novel centers around the sexy and violent future of Tokyo ruled by lawlessness and violence. Players assume the role of the voluptuous “Fixer” known as Shizume. Players will unfold the corrupt and sordid nature of Tokyo as Shizume, progressing the choice-driven story to its logical conclusion.
The press materials for Echo Tokyo: Phoenix are surprisingly tame, but a large focus of the promotion is on the actual story and characters, as players will have to befriend or betray in order to save or destroy the distraught city.
Artistically there’s a lot of effort and atmosphere put into the way Tokyo is depicted in Dharker’s title. The backgrounds and the whole cyberpunk motif really pops with the way the environments and scenarios are structured and highlighted. The characters this time around aren’t quite as standout as in their other titles like My Girlfriend, which was banned from Steam, or the upcoming My Senpei, which they had to heavily edit in hopes of getting it on Steam.
A lot of gamers hoped that Dharker Studios would pursue more storefronts to get their games up and out on them as opposed to relying on the very unreliable Valve, and it looks like they’re doing just that by exploring their options with Nutaku. They also have plans on releasing the game on the Steam store on March 29th at the end of the month, but there’s no telling if Valve will allow it through or hold it up at the last minute the way they did with Niplheim’s Hunter and Food Girls.
You can pick up the R18+ version of Echo Tokyo: Phoenix right now from over on the Nutaku storefront.
