Valve’s curation policies are about as stable as a Kendall Jenner relationship, or they seem to have a schizophrenic team running the Taste Police because some of the games getting through lately don’t make any sense compared to some of the games they’ve recently banned. For instance, Kamimachi Site: Dating Story is currently live on the Steam store from Lipplen and Far East Studio, but just judging by the looks of the game one would have thought Valve’s anti-loli employees would have nuked it from orbit.
The single-player, story driven sex romp launched on the Steam store for $17.99.
It’s available in all its R18+ glory, but due to it being a Japanese-made program the hardcore sex sequences contain mosaic censorship.
Even still, the Adults Only release on Steam raises some obvious questions about how the Taste Police operate at Steam. Something like Key To Home was banned because Valve deemed it “legally grey” even though there was no sexual content, no nudity, not even panty shots. Yet something like Kamimachi Site, which features an almost loli-looking character gets through unscathed.
It’s baffling. Maddening even, especially if you’re a developer trying to navigate Valve’s highly inconsistent content policies.
Some games have been banned simply because Valve’s employees felt the characters looked underage, like My Girlfriend, which was the all-ages version of the game and it was set in college!
In the case of Kamimachi Site: Dating Story, the game is broken down into multiple parts, starting with the Adventure Part, and then the Teasing Part, and then finally the Sex Part.
You can navigate and interact with certain sequences leading up to big showdown.
The developers are well aware of their audience, indicating that one of the features is the one-handed controls, stating on the store page…
“You can control the movies with the numerical keypad, so you have your other hand free.”
Cheeky.
At one point Valve was pretty strict about games featuring lolis and characters that even remotely looked underage, wide-spread banning all sorts of games even if they didn’t feature sexually explicit content. And now it seems as if there’s a lackadaisical sense of curation taking place for select titles, or maybe they’re easing up on certain bans? It’s impossible to tell and it’s not like Valve is transparent with their curation process.
Anyway, Kamimachi Site: Dating Story is available right now to purchase from the Steam store for $17.99. I don’t know if some Taste Police Officer will get triggered after coming across the news and retroactively ban it, but if you were interested in grabbing the program you might want to do so now.
