The Christchurch District Judge Stephen O’Driscoll in New Zealand sentenced 44-year-old Philip Ars to 21 months in prison for spreading the Christchurch shooting livestream video to 30 people. Since the video had been labeled as “objectionable” by the national Chief Censor, it makes viewing or sharing the video in public or through social media a crime. The courts labeled Ars’ action a “hate crime” according to a report from the BBC.
Ars had been arrested back in April of 2019, along with several others who also shared the video and images from the video, including an 18-year-old who took a still image from the video and placed the words “Target Acquired” over the image, which prompted for his arrest after sharing the image.
The judge was harsher on Ars because he shared the video to more than 30 people and wanted the video to be modified to include a kill counter for the people that were killed during the massacre.
The BBC reported…
“The court heard that Arps had also intended to share a modified video – which included crosshairs and a kill count. He had described the modified footage as “awesome”, the New Zealand Herald reports.
“Judge O’Driscoll condemned Arps’ actions, calling them a “hate crime”. He added that it was “particularly cruel” of Arps to share the video in the days after the attacks.”
So now you can be arrested and imprisoned in New Zealand for making or sharing memes of real life events.
Literally, arrested for memes.
There’s this constant shift towards the erosion of freedom and Leftists continue to abide by the standards that accommodate that erosion because they think that feelings are more important than freedom. Heck, even when they get hit by the very same censorship they advocate, they justify it by saying it’s for the greater good.
Expect the censorship to keep escalating as big tech and globalists keep trying to reduce whatever wiggle room you’ve been afforded to share your thoughts and opinions online. Heck, in the U.K., the police are cracking down on people who share what they deem as “offensive” posts on Twitter and Facebook, as reported by the Independent, Breitbart and The Guardian.
With the Christchurch Call encouraging more countries to establish laws that more aggressively attack “hate speech”, “offensive” posts, and “extremist” content, don’t be surprised if more arrests are made for people sharing spicy memes as the Social Justice menace continue to hunt down and exercise extreme prejudice against your freedoms.
