Race-swapping is all the rage these days in Hollywood and on streaming TV. Many major productions see popular characters being replaced with dark-skinned actors or actresses in order to anger the populace and raise racial tensions. Disney recently revealed that Halle Bailey was cast as a black Ariel in the upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. This obviously didn’t go down well with normal people, but the Freeform TV channel, which used to be known as ABC Family, came out in defense of Bailee with a condescending attack on anyone who wasn’t keen on the race-swapping agenda that Disney has been pursuing for certain characters.
After the backlash against Disney’s casting went viral, Freeform TV posted an open letter online against potential moviegoers, censuring them for not openly accepting Disney’s propaganda. On July 6th, 2019 they published the following message on Twitter.

If you’re unable to read the message in the tweet, it states…
“Yes. The original author of ‘The Little Mermaid’ was Danish. Ariel…is a mermaid. She lives in an underwater kingdom in international waters and can legit swim wherever she wants (even though that often upsets King Triton, absolute zaddy). But for the sake of argument, let’s say that Ariel, too, is Danish. Danish mermaids can be black because Danish *people* can be black. Ariel can sneak up to the surface at any time with her pals Scuttle and the *ahem* Jamaican crab Sebastian (sorry, Flounder) and keep that Bronze base tight. Black Danish people, and thus mer-folk, can also *genetically* (!!!) have red hair. But spoiler alert – bring it back to the top – the character of Ariel is a work of fiction. So after all this is said and done, and you still cannot get past the idea that choosing the incredible, sensational, highly-talented, gorgeous Halle Bailey, is anything other than the INSPIRED casting that it is because she ‘doesn’t look like the cartoon one’, oh boy, do I have some news for you…about you.”
First of all, citation needed on black Danes.
Second of all, citation needed on black, Dane, mer-folk with red hair.
Third and lastly, there’s nothing “inspired” about race-swapping for the purpose of angering longtime fans.
Since Freeform posted the message on Twitter, and majority of Twitter is Left leaning, there’s majority support for Freeform’s screed on the likes and retweet metrics, but thankfully there are still some people with common sense. Rightfully some normal people checked Freeform on “jumping the shark” in the comments.
That’s cultural appropriation, fallacious argumentation. No sun in the abyss, black mermaid we dismiss.#NotMyAriel pic.twitter.com/A0Ddg7CChO

Nice job jumping the shark, freeform. Calling Disney fans who disagree with this casting because of the look of the animated version racist. This why I stopped watching this channel. But there’s two things you forget.

wanting to have a more accurate live action portrayal of the ANIMATED version of the character doesn’t show anything is wrong w/ me. Don’t care if they change/add anything to the story, we just want something that resembles the characters in the animated version.

We can have representation without replacing pre-existing characters, you want a black mermaid princess create one, you want a black James Bond, create another badass agent. It’s that simple. We don’t need characters to be hand down to us.

Expect more media support for Disney’s decision leading up to the release of The Little Mermaid, and more false flags to generate buzz, as pointed out by YouTuber YellowFlash.
Disney already screwed the pooch with an unnecessary and an anger-igniting casting decision for the upcoming live-action flick, and the media will do what they can to prop up this hardihood decision, but getting woke and slapping people across the face with the fish of flippancy is a surefire way to make their project go broke.
