Boiling Steel, VR Melee Game Enters Early Access December 5th For $19.99

Ukrainian studio MiroWin Studio announced that Boiling Steel, a melee-based VR game, will be launching into Early Access on Steam starting December 5th next month for just $19.99.

The game is set in a futuristic society where the human consciousness can be fitted into robotic chassis. You take on the role of a worker operating a “shell” in a hazardous mine. The problem is that a radical terrorist group has commandeered the system with a virus and turned all the other robots into an organized group of killers and it’s up to you to venture throughout the mine, utilizing a variety of different tools to take them down and figure out what’s going on.

You can get a glimpse of what the gameplay is like with the trailer below.

The way the robots storm your position makes it look like it’s more of an arcade-style shooter akin to House of the Dead or Time Crisis rather than a melee-focused FPS. I suppose, though, it takes a concept like Condemned: Criminal Origins but makes it a lot more lighthearted and fast-paced.

Players will traverse through a variety of different levels, some of which include towering platforms, while others see players underground, or battling among scaffolding, or alongside the cliff edges.

To help add some replayability to the game there are randomly generated biomes that make each playthrough unique, and the developers are promising around 10 hours of gameplay and nine different mining tools to acquire and utilize as weapons.

There was another VR game that is either about to come out or has come out recently that seemed a little more interesting. It’s a stealth game that allows you to infiltrate using a variety of different tactics. I think something like that would probably garner more interest from people not typically inclined to play VR titles, but then again maybe Boiling Steel will end up being a sleeper hit because a bunch of people want to play as a robot and beat the crap out of other robots? In any case, you can learn more about the game by visiting the Steam store page or look for it to go live starting December 5th.
