Cosplay Convention Crisis, Ecchi Visual Novel Aims For Release On Switch, PS4, Xbox One In 2020

The Hidden Levels and Midnight Hearts’ new romantic comedy visual novel called Cosplay Convention Crisis is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter. The ecchi-filled romp is also scheduled to release on home consoles and PC, assuming the crowdfunding initiative turns out to be a whooping success.

The indie team only has four years of experience under their belt, but they’re currently seeking a sum total of just under $9,000 to finish up and bring Cosplay Convention Crisis to life.

You can get an idea of what the VN is about with the pitch video below.

As described, you take on the role of Jacob Kirby who teams up with three voluptuous young girls named Makoto, Talleah, and Amanda. The foursome engage in hijinks that will either result in the world being saved… or being destroyed.

Based on the decisions made by the player will determine the outcome of the foursome’s fate.

Now there is some good and bad news attached to the game’s crowdfunding.

We’ll start with the bad news first. The home console versions are not allowed to be R18+. Some of the language and imagery had to be toned down to accommodate the platform holder’s standards. While the developers didn’t say which platform holders specifically requested these changes, given Sony’s censorship policies it’s a pretty safe bet which one wanted the game neutered like a frisky puppy.

The good news, however, is that the PC version will come fully equipped with an R18+ uncensored patch. So for those of you who wanted to experience Cosplay Convention Crisis in all its sensuous cosplay glory, you’ll be able to do so… on PC.

The R18+ patch is also a safe bet to ensure that the developers will be able to make it past Valve’s taste police. The software curators over there can get real finicky when it comes to allowing certain kinds of games on the platform, even if they are all-ages.

The art-style reminds me a lot of the Depona series, with a rather casual design for the characters. The colors and shading are quite detailed, though, offering a contrast to the more lighthearted expressions worn by the cast of characters.

If you’re interested in the visual novel but you’re not entirely sure you want to lay down some coin for the game via crowdfunding, you can check out a free demo over on the Steam store page. Alternatively, if you would like to contribute to the game’s crowdfund, you can do so by visiting the Kickstarter page.
