37Games announced that Soul Land has made its way from China to the West. The mobile MMO is like an isekai meets Digimon meets wuxia. The game came out some time ago in China and is based on a popular novel and animated CGI movie of the same name. Now 37Games is hoping to capture the same level of success in English speaking territories.
The concept centers around different Magister schools that help young prospects establish and develop their inner warsouls, a powerful energy that comes in the form of plants, tools, or animals.
The game sees players joining a school as a novice and attempting to develop one of eight starting warouls. Over time, as you level up your character, grow your party, and learn new abilities, you’ll be able to obtain up to five warsouls per character, and each warsoul can unlock up to 10 skills.
The actual gameplay is very similar to Conqueror Online. It’s an isometric title with active-time battle combat mechanics, as you can see below in the video from Neliver Fun.
There’s really nothing special about the game, but what is interesting is that it was popular enough to gain a 3DCG movie in China.
The animations are stiff and the character designs are somewhat lacking, but it’s funny because all the main characters in Soul Land are supposed to be between the ages of six and 12 and yet all the chicks are fully figured with huge boobs.
It’s quite hilarious because the typical screamers and screechers on Twitter would have an outright epileptic conniption if they ever watched the flick. You can get a glimpse of what it’s like with the review from YouTuber DongHua Reviews.
Usually there’s a recognizable pattern that these sort of games take once they release in one region, have a tie-in novel or movie, and then release in another region. The next step is likely going to be a PC release and possibly a port over to the consoles, sort of like Caravan Stories or Black Desert Online.
If you were interested in checking out Soul Land, the game is free-to-play for iOS and Android via the Google Play Store or the iTunes App Store.
