Dying Light 2 Faces Delay, Techland's Diverse Team Offers No Release Date

Those looking forward to Dying Light 2 by Polish devs Techland will find that the first-person horror title will not drop sometime this spring. According to the diverse devs at Techland, the game will release when the team has more information to share.

Originally planned to hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One, the upcoming game will likely find its way over on next-gen platforms such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X due to the delay.

Not to jump the gun and to stay on topic, Techland will push the zombie horror-survival game back indefinitely according to the following tweet by Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka:

So that marks another game on the 2020 delay list. However, this shouldn’t come in as a surprise given the amount of diversity-hires filling the ranks of the Polish company known as Techland.

I say this because back on June 25th, 2018, we reported on Techland’s Tymon Smektała sending VentureBeat a letter after the website’s article on diversity and the lack thereof in Dying Light 2. Smektała’s response regarding the studio being diverse sits below:

“As you [VentureBeat] pointed out in your article, Poland is a very homogeneous society in general. However, this in no way affects our perception of the rest of the world. The Techland team consists of people from all around the world – we have devs from the US, Mexico, Italy, France, Brazil and Russia, amongst others. They all bring something to the table when it comes to diversity and experience.

We can assure you that Dying Light 2’s main protagonist will not simply be a “white guy in Europe” – we will have more to reveal regarding character customization as well as the overall story in the months ahead, so stay tuned! On top of that, the world of Dying Light 2, has been created with Chris Avellone, one of the top narrative game designers of our time, who is known for creating very diverse worlds and complex, unique characters.”

Looking to flex in current year, Smektała had to make sure to further virtue signal that Dying Light 2 will have “a diverse cast of NPCs” by saying folks will find different types of minorities and LGBTQ people in the game:

“In the final version of the game, players will definitely see people of different ethnic backgrounds, religions, members of LGBTQ community represented. At Techland we find it very important to be inclusive, and we find diversity important and necessary.”

One could argue that the switch to the new C-Engine could have deterred the dev team, but seeing the tiresome pattern that is diversity hires not being able to code seems like the probable cause in this scenario.

Anyway, if you want to know more about Dying Light 2 and its release date, you’ll have to play the waiting game until Techland offers word on said game.
