Vince Zampella is best known for founding Respawn Entertainment. Although the team would go on to make Titanfall in 2014, EA would come in and acquire the team on December 1st, 2017. Well, Zampella will be the head of DICE LA — the ones that always fix DICE Stockholm’s problems — and oversee a new game to come out of said studio.
If you are unaware of Respawn Entertainment’s recent behavior under EA, the dev team came under fire back in August 2019, where developer Drew McCoy took shots at the community after the Iron Crown event.
McCoy and other Respawn Entertainment devs took up the initiative to call gamers that weren’t fans of the ($170) axe “freeloaders” and “ass-hats,” angering fans even more.
As of right now, EA is looking to put Zampella over DICE LA in which he will give it a “new image.”
Zampella wants more people to work at the studio. However, rebranding is important to him according to this section on latimes.com recapping DICE’s history:
“DICE was founded in Stockholm in the early 1990s and is home to games such as “Battlefield,” “Mirror’s Edge” and “Star Wars: Battlefront.” But Electronic Arts characterizes its L.A.-based outpost as long dedicated to support for DICE’s core products. Under Zampella, there are plans to expand and launch an original, as-yet-unrevealed game. The company will remain separate from Respawn and, Zampella says, likely will drop the DICE name.”
It remains to be a mystery what Zampella and DICE LA have in store for gamers in that will this game be a new IP, or will it continue the story of an existing working title?
Nevertheless, what isn’t a mystery is that Respawn Entertainment and Oculus Studios are to bring Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond to VR goers sometime in 2020. And like any other current year WW2 game, it has to have a strong French female resistant leader and censored swastikas.
Respawn and Oculus Studios are set to release Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond to Oculus sometime in 2020.
Lastly, I’m sure we’ll hear more about Zampella’s role at DICE LA and what type of game this new title will be when EA releases its earnings call on January 30th, 2020.
