The EVO 2020 line-up has been revealed by Joey “Mr. Wizard” Cuellar, who rolled out the announcement in typical EVO fashion by posting a tweet featuring an image of the nine games that will be featured on the main broadcasts.
The tweet went live on February 5th, 2020 via Joey Cuellar’s main account.

You might notice that the line-up includes a number of recognizable games from the previous year, including Super Smash Bros: Ultimate, Dragon Ball FighterZ and SoulCalibur VI. What it doesn’t feature is NetherRealm Studios’ Mortal Kombat 11, which is drop-dead hilarious.
The uber-gory fighting game with its toned down and de-sexualized female fighters still couldn’t make the cut even after they tried appealing to the Social Justice crowd with all sorts of woke nonsense.
I’m just spit-balling here, but the likelihood of Mortal Kombat 11’s removal from the line-up is because EVO just didn’t want to risk losing monetization for broadcasting Mortal Kombat 11. Keep in mind that the entire stream would be demonetized, not just the airing of Mortal Kombat 11, which would certainly eat into the revenue they would generate otherwise.
This is all because the game is practically automatically demonetized by YouTube due to its copious amounts of blood and gore being on display, as discussed by HoneBeeCMNDR. This has been an ongoing issue with the game since its release, and has been a contentious subject in the FGC because a lot of content creators have to put in extra time and work to overtly censor the blood and gore in order to avoid being demonetized by YouTube.
Now to be fair, the organizers of EVO didn’t give an explicit reason for the removal of the game from the line-up, but the reason mentioned above could be as good a reason as any.
Also, don’t think that this won’t affect the development of Mortal Kombat 12. If NetherRealm is getting shunned for over-the-top gore from the e-sports broadcasting community, then expect them to tone it down in the next entry.
Hilariously enough, despite the SJWs constantly dogging on Japanese games, guess what did make the cut? Various beloved Japanese titles, such as Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[cl-r] and the upcoming Granblue Fantasy: Versus, two games from the Arc System Works label.
Another big surprise is that SNK Corporation’s Samurai Shodown made the list as well after releasing last year for the PS4 and Xbox One. The game is also set to release on February 25th for the Nintendo Switch.
I’m still waiting for the PC version and all those sweet, sweet mods that will come along with it.
Let this be a lesson to game developers out there: catering toward the woke crowd will only net you exclusion.
Real gamers are playing real games, and now even e-sports competitions want nothing to do with that woke nonsense that is Mortal Kombat 11. Someone should post up that gif of that fat louse saying “Congrats, you played yourself.”
You can look for EVO 2020 to broadcast live from out of Las Vegas, Nevada between July 31st on Friday and August 2nd on Sunday.
