Mighty Craft and City Connection aren’t done with the Super Real Mahjong series. In fact, they have plans on re-releasing more of the Sega Saturn classics for the Nintendo Switch, and they’re promising thinner censorship bars for the upcoming outings in an attempt to skirt as close to the line as possible as to what CERO will allow on the market.
Sankaku Complex picked up the news from an interview that Famitsu held with City Connection, who will be porting over several of the Sega Saturn titles to the Nintendo Switch on April 23rd, 2020. The bundle package will include Super Real Mahjong Graffiti, Real Mahjong PII, Super Real Mahjong PIII and Super real Mahjong PVI, in addition to the other games such as Super Real Mahjong PV, Super Real Mahjong PIV and Super Real Mahjong P7.
The most revelatory portion of the interview came with the discussion about thinning out the censorship bars for the CG images. City Connection’s representative director Nobuhiro Yoshikawa told Famitsu…
“The most obvious thing that stood out for the first time I played the download version, incidentally, had me thinking ‘There’s so much thick light that doesn’t have to be there to conceal the content…’.
“So because of that the boxed version, as opposed to the download version, has thinner light to conceal the scenes containing exposure.”
City Connection’s Takayuki Haragami concurred with Yoshikawa’s statements, noting that the developers worked hard to reduce the appearance of the light beams to cover up the naughty bits of the girls.
They also provided Famitsu with some comparison screenshots so you can see how the light beams have been reduced.
Originally Mighty Craft didn’t want to censor the game on the Switch, but had to comply with the CERO regulations. They attempted to skirt around the issue by saying that some parts or sections couldn’t appear due to certain measures being in place, but when the game did release on the Switch one of the censor bars weren’t properly in place and a lone nipple managed to slip through.
While this might seem like fun and games to most people, and garner a few chuckles here and there, it was no laughing matter for Might Craft, whose game was pulled from the Nintendo eShop after CERO contacted Nintendo about the issue. Mighty Craft apologized and issued a patch for the digital version of Super Real Mahjong to fix the censorship.
When CERO was formed in the early 2000s, nudity was no longer allowed in games released in Japan. So the Sega Saturn re-releases on the Switch had to undergo censorship in order to be approved for digital release on the Nintendo eShop.
For the Super Real Mahjong PV Love2~7 package, they decided to attempt to thin out the censorship bars as much as possible without stepping over CERO’s line.
They also decided to improve the overall resolution for each of the images and videos.
As mentioned at the top of the article, Super Real Mahjong PV Love 2~7 will launch on April 23rd for the Nintendo Switch.
