Ubisoft Is Open To Acquiring Other Companies, According To Yves Guillemot

Ubisoft is an ever-expanding company, owning multiple studios around the world — allowing the French company to churn out yearly releases if it wants to. Well, according to Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot, the act of acquiring other companies is not out of the question at this point and time.

During a Q&A section of Ubisoft’s full-year earnings call on May 14th, 2020, an analyst made mention that some game companies might be struggling during these times. The analyst wanted to know if Ubisoft would attempt to buy or acquire companies going through tough times.

Thanks to website videogameschronicle.com, you can read Guillemot’s response right here:

“We are studying carefully the market these days and if there are opportunities we will take them. At the same time we have also to tackle these new challenges so it’s taking a little bit of our time. For sure, we’ll look at it carefully.”

The website also highlights how Ubisoft provided its main balance sheet items on May 14th, where it has access to long-term financing of €1 billion ($1.08 billion), and a €300 million ($324 million) revolving credit facility “if required.”

From here, no word has surfaced on which studio or company Ubisoft has its eyes on as of now. This means Ubisoft could sweep up anything, although it’s more likely that Guillemot and crew will go after smaller companies and studios instead of big names.

Furthermore, Ubisoft also plans to release five triple-A games. These games consist of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, an unannounced project, Watch Dogs Legion, Gods and Monsters, and Rainbow Six Quarantine. These five titles will launch sometime during the current fiscal year ending in March 2021.

And lastly, out of the five games, three will be released during the third-quarter ending in December 2020, and two will also debut in the fourth quarter as per the publication site.
