Golfing expert Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin will pen The Last of Us HBO series while acting as the executive producers. However, joining Mazin is his partner in crime, Johan Renck — a name that stands as Chernobyl’s director. Renck will help out writing the pilot according to new reports.
PlayStation Productions — a TV and movie branch of SIE in Culver City, California, headed up by Asad Qizilbash and Shawn Layden in 2019 — will co-produce The Last of Us television series with HBO.
Carolyn Strauss will assist as an executive producer along with Evan Wells — the president of Naughty Dog. Also, The Last of Us HBO series will have help from Sony Pictures Television in the co-production department.
The series will also have the first and second game’s composer that is a Che Guevara lover, Gustavo Santaolalla, helping out too.
With that said, websites gamerant.com and screenrant.com are both covering Renck joining the fray to help out on the pilot for The Last of Us HBO series.
But of course, the TV show wouldn’t be a work of current year if it didn’t include “the gay gay.” It’s unclear when these themes will appear in the pilot directed by Renck, but it is certain that Mazin will add gay themes while the show airs for public viewing:
You have my word.
— Craig Mazin (@clmazin) March 5, 2020
At this point, the show will hit the ground running when it comes to current year politics, given Sony and Druckmann making the traitors of America list and Mazin’s above response.
No word on a release date has surfaced as of this writing, but it’s safe to assume that we’ll hear more about this show in the coming months. In the meantime, The Last of Us: Part 2 will drop exclusively for PS4 on June 19th, 2020.
