South Korean developer, Science Pixel Games, announced that they have a brand new 2.5D beat-’em-up platformer in the works featuring a very shapely and scantily clad waifu called Shattered Soul.
The game’s recent reveal indicated that it’s a game that’s a long ways off from release, housing a July 29th, 2021 launch date. However, the good news is that there’s a demo version you can test out right now by downloading it from over on the itch.io page.
The demo is only 160MB, so you won’t be losing much if you do decide to check it out.
If you would rather see the game in action before you take the plunge and download the demo, you can check out the announcement trailer below.
I’m a little unfazed by the Flash-style animations, but I’m willing to give it a pass only because it’s an indie game, and I know how difficult it is to manually animated characters via the old-fashioned pixel method.
On the upside, you can tell that Science Pixel Games did invest some time into making sure that the animations are smooth, so that they don’t quite look like marionettes. That’s usually one of the biggest turnoffs with the Flash-style animation approach is because it looks like the body parts are moving on strings.
Anyway, it has many of the classic beat-’em-up features but with the added bonus of 2.5D platforming and traversal. You can also dodge, dash, and guard, which don’t always make the cut in beat-’em-up titles.
You’ll be able to fight through 24 different enemies, down six different bosses, and even play the game either solo or with a buddy with the local two-player co-op mode. And thanks to Steam that means that remote play is an option.
So far the game looks pozz-free, and there’s no Left-wing propaganda in sight (for as far as I can tell). Also, the lead heroine being sexy just adds to the flavor, especially since beautiful women are now verboten in AAA Western titles. Science Pixel Games are the kind of developers we definitely need to support.
You can wishlist or follow the development of Shattered Soul by visiting the Steam store page.
