Community preservationists have recovered an unreleased early prototype build of the Not a Hero expansion for Resident Evil 7 directly from a PlayStation 4 development kit.
The salvaged build dates back to Capcom's original development cycle before the studio delayed the add-on past its planned March 2017 release window to completely overhaul the campaign.
Data extracted from the devkit reveals several scrapped story elements, including Chris Redfield taking Lucas Baker alive for interrogation rather than putting him down on the spot.
Chris was also capable of rescuing all three of his captured squadmates, entirely skipping the finished expansion's explosive wrist-bomb timer mechanic in favor of a showdown with a mutated researcher named Alan.
