Spore Mod Adds Four Player Co-Op Evolution Nearly Two Decades Later

Spore players can now experience the classic evolution simulator cooperatively thanks to an ambitious community mod that introduces four-player online multiplayer. Maxis originally shipped the sandbox title back in 2008 without direct multiplayer functionality, forcing players to settle for asynchronous creature sharing instead.

The new modification lets groups of up to four users progress through every evolutionary era together, spanning all the way from microscopic cell stages up to the galactic space age. Network connections currently run through virtual LAN tools such as Hamachi or Porthole to link hosts and clients across sessions.

If you ever wanted to conquer planetary systems alongside friends with bizarre customized monstrosities, this long-awaited PC mod breathes unexpected fresh air into an abandoned franchise.
