Although Valve can’t count to three and, as of recent, produced a lackluster title that is the failed abomination known as Artifact, it seems like Gaben and crew are “re-energized” to make games that aren’t card related. However, these forthcoming games are said to discover the universe of Half-Life.
To put it plain and simple, don’t expect Half-Life 3. I’m sure that title will never come out in a long time if ever. What is likely to come out of Valve is more games that explore “different gameplay” avenues.
In other words, don’t expect conventional first-person shooter titles with puzzle elements, but something outside the box… that is if we can trust Valve’s David Speyrer.
The website known for pushing social justice narratives without any caution, which is best known as The Verge, has an interview up with Speyrer regarding more Half-Life.
When the publication site asked Spreyrer, “Does this [Half-Life: Alyx] mark a full return to the series? Should we expect more?” The dev had this to say:
“Yes. It’s probably no surprise that many people at Valve have been wanting to get back to the Half-Life universe for a long time, and this experience has only reinforced that.
In the process of creating Half-Life: Alyx, we’ve had to explore new ways to tell stories with these characters and this world, and we’ve discovered a lot of new gameplay experiences that go beyond what we’ve been able to do before.
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how people react to Half-Life: Alyx once it’s out, but we’d love to continue pushing forward.”
Personally, I wouldn’t hold my breath on anything substantial coming out of Valve at this point if Artifact’s quality is an indication of the company’s gaming output.
In addition to the above, Artifact goers are still left in the dark after a March update post that signals the team is keeping their heads down until they fix pressing issues. But, there’s no ETA on anything, and if that’s the case, I can’t see that changing moving forward with these new Half-Life games.
Anyway, there you have it, Valve wants to make more games in the realm of Half-Life. With all of that said, what do you think of all of this?
