It looks like Team Ninja knows that fans want a new Ninja Gaiden game. Despite going through with NioH 2, the dev team makes mention that fans are showing more interest in seeing Ryu Hayabusa in action instead of the sequel to the new working IP due out for PS4 on May 24th, 2020.
Publication site IGN had the opportunity to sit down with game director Fumihiko Yasuda at a recent preview event for NioH 2. At the event, the publication got to talk to Yasuda about other things not related to NioH 2, much like a new installment in the Ninja Gaiden series.
Here’s what the website had to say about Yasuda’s thoughts on making a new Ninja Gaiden game:
“IGN was able to sit down with the game’s director, Fumihiko Yasuda, who revealed that the core members of the Nioh 2 dev team worked on Ninja Gaiden, and they want to make a new game soon, maybe another in the ninja-genre.”
The website continues:
“Nioh 2’s director has revealed that developer Team Ninja is already thinking about making its next game. What’s more, Team Ninja says they’re aware that there is an appetite for more Ninja Gaiden games and that, coincidentally, they’ve been inspired by a recent wave of ninja-themed video games themselves.”
That wave of “ninja-themed video games” has Yasuda and crew excited to make a new entry in the series, especially with Activision and FromSoftware releasing the 2019 game Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Speaking of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, you can read what Yasuda has to say about making a new Ninja Gaiden game due to the former title:
“We are aware that some fans wanted Ninja Gaiden more than Nioh 2. Now we see a lot of ninja games like [Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice] as well, and we see a lot of good inspirations in those games, so we hope to deliver some good news one day.”
Right now, we won’t see Ryu Hayabusa doing any action-adventure stunts, but it doesn’t mean that Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja won’t produce a working title for PC and home consoles — as noted above.
However, we are in current year, and that means we’ll likely see some form of woke culture seep into whatever new installation is in the works. With that said, are you looking forward to a new Ninja Gaiden game, or are you skeptical that Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja might botch it?
