The Persistence, Rogue-like FPS Horror Game Heads To Switch, PS4, Xbox This Summer

Firesprite Studios The Persistence is set to arrive on home consoles, PC, and the Oculus HMDs starting this summer. The game is like a rogue-like version of Dead Space that’s set in first-person. You’ll have to navigate a ship full of space horrors using a variety of weapons and melee weapons to overcome the odds.

The game is set on a deep space colony starship in the year 2521 that’s heading toward a black hole. You awaken as a security clone to find that the crew have turned into horrific abominations and murderous mutants. You’ll either have to avoid the enemies using stealth or gather your wits and some equipment and attempt to fight them using a limited amount of ammo and supplies.

You can get a glimpse of what the gameplay is like with the minute long trailer below.

As pointed out by Eurogamer, The Persistence originally launched back in 2018 for the PlayStation VR, but most people probably had no idea it existed since most people don’t like or play VR games.

The added focus on playing clones of a female security officer named Zimri Elder added absolutely zero appeal to the game’s marketability, and so most normal gamers just zoned out and ignored The Persistence.

Firesprite realized that if they wanted their game to sell they would have to put on platforms people actually care about, and that means focusing on real gaming consoles instead of just the VR fad.

That’s why The Persistence is launching on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and on PC as a way to recoup development costs and attempt to grow its audience.

Gameplay wise, it doesn’t look bad. The melee looks visceral and the environmental designs look haunting and eerie, which is necessary to capture the atmosphere of a sci-fi horror experience.

There’s some hints of Event Horizon tucked away in the design, along with giving a nod to Visceral Games’ Dead Space series.

You can look for the game to arrive on home consoles and PC this summer. And you won’t need a VR headset to play the game on PC, which is funny because it completely defeats the purpose of the game having launched as a VR exclusive originally.
