Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann made it known to the world that The Last of Us games will have an HBO TV series adaptation. This was made public on March 5th of this year, and it looks like as of recently, the show will not start production until the second game hits store shelves and the digital scene on May 29th, 2020.
Although we don’t know if the HBO TV series will take place at the beginning of the first game or if it will take liberties to explore other areas that aren’t canon remains unknown at this point, but what doesn’t remain uncertain is that the crew behind the forthcoming show won’t shy away from examining “gay representation.”
That’s correct, Mazin — the guy behind the Chernobyl limited series — took the time to reply to a random Twitter user regarding gay politics in The Last of Us HBO TV series before outlining info on characters, the setting, the actors or actresses filling roles or when the show will air.
However, it took two weeks to get a hint at when production of the show will start, and according to website dualshockers.com, it will reportedly begin after The Last of Us: Part 2 hits PS4 in late May.
The website makes mention of Mazin revealing what to expect from the series on his podcast “Scriptnotes,” which he co-hosts with screenwriter John August.
On the podcast, Mazin discusses the industry of writing for TV and film and later shifts to production on the show is planned to begin, “after Naughty Dog and series co-writer Neil Druckmann finish their work on The Last of Us: Part 2.”
Aside from that, Mazin also explained on the podcast that the show’s production and development team “can’t start on it right away” until Naughty Dog’s work on the second game wraps up, which Mazin expects work on the show to start up “pretty soon.”
Lastly, Mazin also explained that The Last of Us TV series was going to be a movie, but due to numerous stalls, his team thought a TV show was better. Additionally, Mazin explained that The Last of Us‘ story “needs length” for a proper adaptation, which he believes a movie cannot capture.
So there you have it, the upcoming show that won’t shy away from gay propaganda will start production in late May or early April. However, no word on a launch date has surfaced.
