Sony is reportedly locking down custom AMD silicon featuring RDNA 5 architecture to power an unannounced portable PlayStation console.
According to Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter, the hardware giant negotiated a specialized chip design that would prioritize compact performance efficiency and advanced ray tracing.
The bespoke silicon could leave rival handheld makers like Valve in a tough spot if AMD reserves key architectural perks exclusively for PlayStation.
While official specifications remain under wraps, Sony appears determined to avoid past portable missteps by delivering serious horsepower for its next handheld outing.
