Sony Handheld Reportedly Secures Custom AMD RDNA 5 Architecture Exclusively

Sony is reportedly collaborating with AMD to equip its rumored next-generation handheld with a customized version of RDNA 5 graphics architecture. Digital Foundry's Richard Leadbetter revealed that this bespoke silicon partnership could give Sony a massive technological advantage over competing portable devices.

The tailored RDNA 5 implementation aims to deliver higher raw graphical throughput alongside vastly improved ray tracing efficiency inside a compact power envelope. Because of this custom arrangement, rival handheld makers like Valve may find themselves locked out of these specific architectural benefits for future hardware revisions.

If you were hoping that open PC handhelds would comfortably outpace Sony's upcoming portable hardware, this proprietary hardware deal could completely shift the landscape. Sony has yet to officially announce the machine, but the company clearly wants console-tier visual fidelity in players' hands.
