Discord is reportedly rolling out a major performance update this week aimed at drastically slashing the communication platform's notorious memory consumption. Chief Technology Officer Stanislav Vishnevskiy hinted that engineers have rewritten core portions of the client from resource-heavy Electron over to lightweight Rust.
PC gamers have spent years criticizing the desktop application for guzzling excessive system RAM and running sluggish background processes during heavy multiplayer sessions. Migrating critical architecture to Rust should eliminate bloated web runtime overhead and deliver noticeably faster loading times.
The client overhaul is scheduled to begin deploying across desktop systems before the end of the week. If your gaming rig routinely choked whenever Discord ran beside hardware-intensive titles, this long overdue optimization should free up vital system resources.
