Oberlin College Hit With Additional $33 Million In Punitive Damages For Getting Woke And Smearing Gibson's Bakery

The Gibson’s Bakery versus Oberlin College court case went wholly in favor of the bakery. On June 7th, 2019 the jury had awarded Gibson’s Bakery $11.2 million in compensatory damages after being smeared by Oberlin College. But recently it’s been reported that the jury tacked on an additional $33 million in punitive damages, bringing the total sum to more than $44 million in damages.

According to a report published on June 13th, 2019 over on Legal Insurrection, the total punitive damages awarded by the jury breaks down with the following tally:

  • David Gibson – $17.5 million punitive damages
  • Allyn W. Gibson — $8.75 million punitive damages
  • Gibson Bros. Inc. (the Bakery) – $6,973,500 punitive damages

There’s a video of the bakery’s owner, David Gibson, and his reaction to the jury’s verdict.

If you’re unable to hear what Gibson says, he states…

“Weren’t [racist] in the past and we aren’t now. And the jury has made that clear and I do appreciate that. And further, I appreciate from the jury the way they took care of this Goliath – that took a lot of guts on their part. They made it so that we have a chance, an opportunity to keep the lights on.

“They’ve given us an opportunity to keep the lights on for another generation.”

This all started back in November of 2016 when a black college student from Oberlin College attempted to shoplift from Gibson’s Bakery because he wasn’t old enough to purchase wine legally. The student attempted to lift the bottles of wine from the bakery but one of the employees spotted him. This resulted in one of the employees chasing the student outside where a scuffle ensued when two more students got involved. The police eventually arrived and arrested the three teens, who then pleaded guilty in the court of law.

However, Oberlin’s staff decided to turn it into a social justice issue, wherein they attempted to blame Gibson’s Bakery for racial profiling and for discriminating against the black students. As reported by Kunstler, Gibson’s Bakery sued the college in November of 2017 after things escalated when Dean of students, Meredith Raimondo, led protests outside the store, where they wrote…

“In the event, Oberlin College Dean of students, Meredith Raimondo, had organized students, faculty, and staff to mount days of demonstrations outside Gibson’s Bakery, accusing it of racism and systematic profiling of black students. At times, Ms. Raimondo appeared to lead the demonstration with a bullhorn, and handed out leaflets labeling Gibson’s as “racist.” The college also dropped its business arrangement with Gibson’s, which had supplied the college with donuts and bagels for decades. Gibson’s then sued both Oberlin College, and Ms. Raimondo in particular, for libel and for attempting to ruin its business.”

As reported by Tim Pool back on June 8th, 2019 the family owned bakery has been around since the late 19th century in 1885, and it’s a historical, generational landmark that earmarks a cornerstone of American history.

Social Justice Warriors attempted to take down this bakery by re-framing the incident that took place back in 2016 as a racially charged perversion of the law, when in reality it was the faculty and Social Justice minions at Oberlin that had perverted the law to their own whims.

In this case Gibson as very much in the right for suing Oberlin for trying to ruin his business and the lives of his family.

The jury seemed to agree with Gibson, and they had no qualms about using the law to slap down the calumny of the Cultural Commissars.

Oberlin got woke and now they could be going broke depending on if the court decides to reduce the punitive damages awarded to Gibson and his family.

As Tim Pool pointed out, this is definitely another victory for the anti-SJW side in the ongoing and escalating Culture War. Whether or not this will deter future Social Justice Warriors from trying the same thing in order to defame a business on false grounds remains to be seen, but Jack Phillips from Masterpiece Cakeshop is going through the very same thing for the third time after having slapped down SJWs in court previously. So if he manages to come out on top again for a third time then it could signal a turning point in the public at large finally getting fed up with the post-modern Marxists and their desecration of Western values.
