David Prien Wants To Know Why Fans Are So Eager To Learn About The Xbox Series X Specs So Early

With Microsoft going on about the next-gen Xbox a year ago (once known as Project Scarlett) and still talking about the new device in that it’s now officially revealed as the Xbox Series X, many people want to know what this new console has to offer and how much it will cost at launch. Well, this concept seems to have the senior director of hardware at Xbox a bit baffled in that he wants to know why fans want to know the specs behind the Series X.

We have covered the Xbox Team saying a lot of stuff about its upcoming console. As a matter of fact, when the device sported the code name of “Project Scarlett,” the Xbox Team had a lot to say about the device. And now that it’s known as the “Series X,” the team still has a lot to say about the next-gen system.

So, naturally, many tech-heads, people on a budget, young people saving up wanting to get in on the next-gen action, and other people coming from unique situations all want to know what they might be investing in since the Xbox Team is very vocal about the Series X?

To put things into perspective, in November 2019 alone, we heard that “Project Scarlett will improve on the Xbox One launch issues while being a powerful competitor.” We also heard that “Project Scarlett isn’t VR focused due to nobody asking for VR.” And lastly, the head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, once said, “Project Scarlett will gain new first-party games every four months.”

Given all the talk, people keep asking the senior director of hardware at Xbox, David Prien, what is powering the Series X. With that said, you can check out the tweet below:

Serious question, not looking for toxicity or box wars. Why do people want to know specs of anything so far in advance? Will it change what you buy since it will be same day of launch? To me it’s like movie spoilers I don’t want to know until I buy my movie ticket.

Firstly, that’s a bad analogy on Prien’s end.

Buying hardware is something you are going to stick with for years to come, unlike spoilers ahead of a film. Once done with the movie, the experience and interaction is over and done with when the movie credits roll, but with a console, this is something you are going to be using for many years to perform different things (like play games, watching movies, listening to music, playing online, and so on). So knowing in advance will help inform you as to whether the console is worth a buy or if it’s not worth your time.

Anyway, one user had this to say to Prien:

Because you guys were screaming from every roof top about the 6 TF Scorpio about 18 months before launch. All you guys did was talk power and tera flops now all of a sudden you act shocked people want to know specs.

Another user chimed in to elaborate on his financial position and how knowing the specs in advance would be helpful:

This is very valid and appreciate solid answer makes total sense if one was out and competition had not released yet, but I get pushed since last E3 daily for specs and don’t know why this far out.

Right now, the Xbox Series X is scheduled to release Q4 2020. I’m sure we’ll learn more about what is powering the vertical tower sometime before its launch date.

Lastly, what do you think of learning specs before you buy something? Is it important to you?
