There was a huge push for Atlus to put Catherine on the Nintendo Switch. A lot of people thought that it would be a great way to top off an already sizable collection of decent games, and lo and behold Atlus followed through with the requests by announcing that Catherine: Full Body would be released on the Nintendo Switch starting July 7th, 2020. It’s just a bittersweet moment, though, given that Atlus has already caved to the ghouls at ResetEra.
So first of all, the announcement for Catherine: Full Body came during the Nintendo Direct Mini, where it was outlined that Switch gamers will gain full access to the Catherine experience.
This includes the base story mode along with the additional story and romance options involving the very mysterious Rin.
You can check out the trailer below.
There’s nothing new or added to the Switch version based on what’s revealed in the trailer.
However, the reason I mentioned above that the announcement is bittersweet is because Catherine: Full Body is censored.
Ahead of its release, ResetEra was nagging Atlus and Sega about the content of Catherine: Full Body, goading them into censoring the game because they claimed it was “transphobic” and “queerphobic”.
One of the voice actresses acknowledged the crazies (which is always the wrong course of action to take) and said that the localization team would be adjusting the game’s “bigotry” for Western audiences. The entire fiasco was covered in depth by YouTuber Hero Hei.
Later on it was revealed that they did make some changes to the dialogue, but even then it wasn’t enough for the cow creamers at ResetEra.
It was later revealed that some of the localizers who work at Atlus and Sega are also members of the ResetEra forum.
So in essence, Atlus’ localization team has been converged. And you can readily expect that many English translations will be altered to accommodate the regressive whims of the mentally ill members that congregate on ResetEra.
Sadly, this also means that Catherine: Full Body was impacted both on PS4 and the Nintendo Switch.
The game is set to release on July 7th, 2020 this summer on Nintendo’s hybrid console.
