Dead or School, the sexy and gory 2.5D zombie shooting game from Studio Nanafushi has officially launched on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 courtesy of Marvelous. The game is available in both North America and Europe both digitally and physically for Sony and Nintendo’s systems. Microsoft is left out of the bunch since they don’t seem to court games with sexy waifus given how they’re all about chasing that minuscule LGBTQIA+ demographic.
Dead or School originally entered into Early Access on Steam back in July of 2018, and then a year later around the same time the game graduated from Early Access. In early 2019 the developers announced that they were working on PS4 and Nintendo Switch ports, and like clockwork they managed to release Dead or School on both home consoles.
Dead or School is a side-scrolling, action game where you battle zombies using melee and projectile-based weapons. You gather supplies, upgrade your equipment and battle against hordes of ravenous undead mutants in order to clear out Tokyo of the infestation so that you can help Hisako achieve the one dream she’s had since she was little: to attend school.
She was told by her grandmother that school was a paradise for young people: learning, playing, and making friends. Hisako decides to undertake the seemingly impossible task of clearing out the monsters so that she can finally live out her dream.
I do wonder if the game had to be censored to accommodate Sony’s censorship policies?
For those of you unaware, Sony has been forcing mostly Asian developers to censor the games of certain kinds of fan-service and sexy images. Even though Dead or School contained no nudity, there were still CG images featuring scantily clad female characters in compromising positions. The sex appeal could have been enough to trigger the danger-hairs at Sony into coercing the developers to remove those images.
Someone who picked up a copy will need to verify if the console version is the same as the version on the Steam store.
You can grab a physical copy of Dead or School from a local retailer for PS4 or Switch for €29.99, or download a digital copy from over on the Nintendo eShop or PlayStation Store for $29.99.
