It’s rare to see a company in current year admit that they were in the wrong. Also, it’s rare to see someone holding an important position in the games industry realize that they were wrong and wish to do better in the future. With that said, we have Aaron Greenberg — board member and Xbox marketing at Microsoft — saying that the Xbox Team will do better after setting “some wrong expectations” regarding the latest Inside Xbox.
To set the record straight, we have to go back in time. On multiple occasions, we have reported that due to the cancelation of this year’s E3 other events have been bumped up pertaining to next-gen news. And later, we covered how info on new games and next-gen titles will surface on the 7th of May.
Confirming the aforesaid comes a tweet from the official Xbox Twitter account on April 30th, 2020, which attempts to hype gamers and fans alike by teasing “next-gen gameplay” footage:
You want to see games for the Xbox Series X? We want to show you games for the Xbox Series X.
Check out First Look next-gen gameplay from our global developers partners within #InsideXbox on Thursday, May 7 at 8am PT. pic.twitter.com/xVdgIeRBJX

And lo and behold, the above wasn’t really present during May’s Inside Xbox episode that aired on May 7th, 2020. And rightfully so, fans unleashed their displeasure seeing that they have been misled:
The same anger or displeaser as seen above spilled over to Twitter, where Greenberg addressed by saying that the Xbox Team is in the wrong, and will strive to do better next time:
Had we not said anything & just shown May Inside Xbox show like we did last month, I suspect reactions might have been different. Clearly we set some wrong expectations & that’s on us. We appreciate all the feedback & can assure you we will take it all in & learn as a team. 🙏🏻💚

And unlike Sony and Naughty Dog, a pair that keeps doubling down after The Last of Us: Part 2 fiasco, a certain Twitter user hinted at the infamous duo and thanked Greenberg for acknowledging the Xbox Team’s fault. However, instead of ignoring the random Twitter user or even blocking him for the Sony jab, Greenberg went along with the joke:
At some point I’m going to have to make the Xbox Series X Gamer Fridge real. I mean based on my social feeds pre-order demand is quite strong! 🤣💚🙅🏼♂️🥶

Lastly, don’t hold your breath on the Xbox Team doing something noteworthy in the future, but it is interesting to see a major company send out a PR/marketing person to apologize for being wrong — especially during a time where it’s hip to attack rightfully pissed customers.
