We’ve been regularly reporting that Patreon has been banning artists, taking control of artists’ copyrighted material, and stalking the artists’ off-site content to enforce their rules, but a new plot-twist has emerged where now NSFW artists are being banned from both Patreon and PayPal.
The 18+ artist, DigitalHToy, is the most recent victim of the purge, having lost both their Patreon account and their PayPal account that they were using for commissions and to pay for schooling. They made a post about it on July 22nd, 2020.
It’s been a good run guys. They’ve disabled my Patreon and my private PayPal account which I also use to pay for school. pic.twitter.com/ko65cxxmBL

If you’re unable to view the image in the tweet, the notice from PayPal states that they’re unable to use their services anymore.
Many of DigitalHToy’s followers and patrons suggested they take their business elsewhere.
So a couple of hours later they decided to update their fans on their decision to look into using SubscribeStar and potentially attempt to get their Patreon account reinstated.
I am looking into solutions. Hopefully I can get rid of paypal and manage my patreon through other means.

Thanks for all the support recently. I love you all!

Unfortunately DigitalHToy didn’t exactly detail which commissions caught the attention of PayPal, and what kind of art landed them in Patreon jail. Did they actually violate the rules or was it one of those situations where someone from the Trust & Safety commission decided that one of the characters looked “underage” and enacted the ban? Patreon didn’t say and neither did DigitalHToy.
Nevertheless, expect more artists to get jettisoned from PayPal and Patreon as they clamp down on content and creators that somehow violate their ever-changing policies.
