Call Of Duty Faces Renewed Russian Ban Threats Over Television Segment

Russian state television sparked renewed calls to outlaw Call of Duty following a broadcast segment criticizing the military shooter's geopolitical storyline. Pundits attacked the franchise for allegedly depicting Russia instigating a military conflict between North and South Korea, reviving long-running political grievances against Activision.

The broadcast marks the fifth high-profile government and media backlash targeting the franchise over claims of anti-Russian propaganda. Russian regulators and state media previously attacked multiple installments across the series, most notably Modern Warfare and the infamous airport massacre in Modern Warfare 2.

Activision already suspended official direct game sales in the Russian market following corporate sanctions in 2022. Any formalized state ban would primarily target grey-market disc imports and digital account workarounds that local gamers use to play the shooter across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.
