Dead By Daylight Hit With Steam Review Wave Over Content Creator Collab

Dead by Daylight's Steam reviews have turned sour, with players accusing Behaviour Interactive of mishandling a collaboration with a content creator that, according to reviews, a vocal crowd online did not want to see happen.

The numbers tell the story: over the last 3 days the game picked up 544 negative reviews against 502 positive ones, putting it at 52% negative, compared to just 26% negative in the weeks before.

The wave started on November 1, when negative reviews climbed to 116, up from 75 on October 31, which was already a busy Halloween stretch with 227 positive reviews coming in that same day.

Then it got worse on November 2, when negatives hit 262 against 211 positives, and November 3 followed with 166 negative reviews against only 81 positive ones.

For a game that sat at 26% negative in the weeks before, that is a sharp turn in a very short window.

The main complaint, according to the most helpful negative reviews, is that Behaviour Interactive bent to pressure from a loud minority over a collab with a content creator – pressure that players say came from people who do not even play the game.

One reviewer with 28.2 hours logged, whose review sits at the top with 220 helpful votes, signed off with a pointed bit of career advice for the studio: "Hope to see you guys packing fries in the bag very soon."

The second complaint is about who gets to represent the game, with several reviewers saying the studio is effectively letting a small segment of the fanbase decide which creators are allowed to promote Dead by Daylight.

A reviewer with 7.2 hours put it plainly: "Community is already toxic without trying to gatekeep who is allowed to promote it."

The third thread running through the reviews is a broader frustration with the game's community and moderation, with one player at 105.8 hours claiming that players who disagree with the prevailing politics get punished or banned, and a 638.4-hour veteran saying the situation confirmed their decision to quit years ago.

As for what Behaviour Interactive has said on Steam, the answer is nothing about any of this.

The studio's official posts over the past two weeks cover the October 22 community stream recap with its MMR update, the October 23 Diablo Collection launch, the October 28 Terrifier PTB patch notes, the October 29 backend balance patch for The Executioner and The Good Guy, and an October 30 Alienware laptop sweepstakes.

A free laptop giveaway is not exactly the statement players are refreshing the news page for.

If you are a Dead by Daylight player trying to figure out where the studio stands on its own collab, its Steam posts offer nothing so far, and the daily numbers suggest that patience is running out fast.
