Steam data reveals that nearly half of all new releases on Valve's storefront now utilize generative artificial intelligence in their development pipeline. A recent industry report tracking platform submissions shows that 49.9% of games launched in October formally disclosed using AI tools.
The rapid adoption represents an explosive surge across PC development, climbing from a modest 1.7% in January 2024 to nearly 31% by mid-summer. Valve officially established disclosure rules earlier this year, forcing developers to declare any pre-generated or live-generated machine content before approval.
An AI disclosure does not necessarily mean every title is fully machine-fabricated slop, as developers trigger the tag for minor assets like menu backdrops or rough dialogue drafts. Regardless, if you browse Steam searching for purely handcrafted independent projects, dodging algorithmic shortcuts is becoming an uphill battle.
