Electronic Arts executives reportedly chose to cancel a new Mass Effect project in order to prioritize Star Wars: Battlefront 3.
According to reporter Jason Schreier, publisher leadership viewed another installment in the multiplayer Star Wars franchise as a significantly safer commercial bet than funding BioWare's next sci-fi venture.
The decision looks even more questionable considering development on the prospective multiplayer shooter has not actually begun yet.
BioWare continues work on other core pipeline projects, but sci-fi RPG enthusiasts will have to keep waiting while corporate leadership chases license-driven revenue.
