Grand Theft Auto VI Requires Updated PlayStation 5 Firmware Version 14.22

Grand Theft Auto VI will require Sony's latest system update to boot, effectively shutting out modded setups running older console code. Tracking account PlayStation Game Size spotted that Rockstar Games and Sony quietly bumped the game's minimum required PlayStation 5 firmware from version 14.10 up to 14.22.00.

The updated requirement means players clinging to older system revisions for homebrew exploits or custom software cannot run the blockbuster title without fully updating their hardware. Sony pushed the new 14.22 system software live today, patching several background security holes that exploit researchers actively probe.

Unless security teams crack the fresh firmware revision before release, jailbroken consoles will remain locked out when Grand Theft Auto VI launches across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
