Zach Cregger's upcoming Resident Evil film adaptation has climbed to the peak of horror rankings as this year's highest-rated genre project. The production secured top honors after outpacing major horror contenders across recent enthusiast polls and aggregate lists.
The cinematic project comfortably beat out viral internet sensations, leaving A24's anticipated feature adaptation of The Backrooms sitting down at tenth place overall. Cregger's previous triumph with Barbarian has clearly convinced moviegoers that Capcom's iconic zombie franchise might finally receive the proper theatrical execution it deserves.
If you suffered through decades of Paul W. S. Anderson action fluff and botched reboots, this critical goodwill suggests Capcom's horror property is heading in the right direction. Fans should expect formal casting announcements and production updates as the film edges closer to filming.
