VRChat Steam Reviews Sink Further To 93% Negative Over Missing AI Labels

VRChat's Steam reviews have sunk further since the last report, with the last 3 days logging 1,750 negative reviews against just 132 positive ones – a 93% negative rating, up from the 69% negative it was sitting at when this story was last covered.

Before any of this kicked off, VRChat Inc.'s social platform was hovering at 29% negative, which is a long way from where it sits now.

The story so far: according to reviews, VRChat Inc. surveyed its community on how to handle generative AI content, and players say 95% of respondents wanted at least some kind of label – only for the studio to decide against adding a filter for AI-generated worlds.

The daily numbers show exactly where things broke, with October 28 bringing in 53 negative reviews to 34 positive, before October 29 hit 949 negative and October 30 piled on another 715.

October 31 has cooled to 86 negative and 21 positive so far, but the negatives are still well ahead, and nothing in the daily figures suggests the mood has turned.

The most helpful negative reviews this week come from players with serious time in the game, including one reviewer with 3,075.6 hours who says the developer asked its community for feedback and then refused the filter that most respondents asked for.

Another reviewer with 2,024.3 hours writes that they love the community built around the platform, but that the platform itself no longer has its userbase's best interests at heart.

Several reviews have moved from complaining to the wallet, with players urging others to drop the VRC+ subscription, and one reviewer putting it bluntly: "Cancelled my VRC+ sub and recommend you do the same until they get their heads out of their asses."

Surveys tend to go better when the answers actually get used.

The only official Steam post from VRChat Inc. in this window is the October 28 release of 2026.4.1, which highlights the Safety Center, improved face tracking and a new login flow, and the announcement itself makes no mention of AI labels or filters.

If you were hoping the studio would walk the decision back, players say the ask is simple – a label or a filter for AI-generated content – and until VRChat Inc. addresses it on its official channels, the review section is where that message keeps landing.
