Sony Files New Trademark Applications In Russia Fueling Comeback Speculation

Sony has filed fresh trademark applications in Russia to register its brand name and corporate logo according to reports from state media. The intellectual property filings have immediately ignited online speculation regarding whether the electronics giant is laying groundwork to resume business in the region.

Major multinational companies routinely maintain and renew inactive trademarks internationally simply to prevent brand squatting and copyright piracy while operations remain suspended. Fulfilling legal paperwork does not necessarily signal an imminent reopening of regional distribution channels or retail storefronts.

Sony halted all PlayStation hardware shipments, physical software deliveries, and digital PlayStation Store operations in Russia back in early 2022. If you were expecting PlayStation Network servers to instantly reopen their doors, you should probably keep your expectations firmly grounded.
